So I did it. I ran the London Landmarks Half Marathon 2022. I trained for 3 and a half months, running a minimum of 20km a week. I upped my protein and healthy fat intake on a vegan diet. I took on weight training and alternative forms of cardio to aid my strength, agility and stamina. I injured foot, knee, back and hip flexor. I bought new shoes and new gear. I spent half my life stretching or soaking my muscles in hot baths. The Nike Run App became my best friend. I ran in Welsh hail, Lincoln torrential rain, random London heatwaves and through the powerful winds of storm Eunice. I paced short canal runs, long Sunday park runs, Interval, Speed, Fartlek - you name it! I ran when I really didn't want to, and I ran when running felt like the most freeing thing I could do on Earth. I raced 13.1 miles on Sunday the 3rd of April, and I was ready for it. I smiled and waved to the kind, cheering strangers. I laughed and was bought to tears by my mum and boyfriend stood in the crowds at each mile breaker point. I was emotional and proud at the Wac Arts Charity stand, with posters and hats that their students had made for me. I ran, and I raised over £600 for them to put towards funding their youth arts program. The half marathon was a life changing experience for me. Was it tough? Absolutely. But it was an event I will remember for the rest of my life. Next up - The London marathon (but give me a week or two to recover eh?!)
